Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) are a dark red color on the back, which fades into white on the belly. The red drum ( red fish) has a characteristic eyespot near the tail and is somewhat streamlined. Three-year-old red drum typically weigh 6-8 lb.
As red drum grow longer, they increase in weight exponentially. The relationship between length (L) and weight (W) for nearly all species of fish can be expressed by an equation of the form.
The Formula: ((Girth x Girth) x Length) / 800 = weight in pounds (girth and length are inches)
Spotted Seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus), also known as speckled trout, is a common estuarine fish found in the southern United States along coasts of Gulf of Mexico and the coastal Atlantic Ocean from Maryland to Florida. Contrary to its name, the spotted seatrout is not a member of the trout family, but of the drum family.
Black Drum (Pogonias cromis), also known as the drum or drummer, is a saltwater fish similar to its cousin, the red drum. Their teeth are rounded and they have powerful jaws capable of crushing oysters and other shellfish.
Common Snook (Centropomus undecimalis) is a species of marine fish. The common snook is also known as the sergeant fish or robalo. Of typical centropomid form, it possesses drab coloration except for a distinctive black lateral line.
The brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is a North American bird of the pelican family, Pelecanidae. It is one of three pelican species found in the Americas and one of two that feed by diving in water. It is found on the Atlantic Coast from Nova Scotia to the mouth of the Amazon River.
The osprey or more specifically the western osprey (Pandion haliaetus) — also called sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk — is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey with a cosmopolitan range. It is a large raptor, reaching more than 60 cm (24 in) in length and 180 cm (71 in) across the wings. It is brown on the upperparts and predominantly greyish on the head and underparts.
Phalacrocoracidae is a family of approximately 40 species of aquatic birds commonly known as cormorants and shags. They are coastal rather than oceanic birds, and some have colonised inland waters – indeed, the original ancestor of cormorants seems to have been a fresh-water bird, judging from the habitat of the most ancient lineage. They range around the world, except for the central Pacific islands.
The roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) - is a gregarious wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. It is a resident breeder from central Florida's Atlantic coast at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, adjoined with NASA Kennedy Space Center at least as far north as South Carolina's Huntington Beach State Park.
Bottlenose dolphins, the genus Tursiops, are the most common members of the family Delphinidae, the family of oceanic dolphin. Bottlenose dolphins inhabit warm and temperate seas worldwide, being found everywhere except for the Arctic and Antarctic Circle regions. Between 200 and 800 Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) also live in the Indian River Lagoon.
The West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus) or "sea cow", also known as North American manatee, is the largest surviving member of the aquatic mammal order Sirenia (which also includes the dugong and the extinct Steller's sea cow).
The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), sometimes referred to colloquially as a gator or common alligator, is a large crocodilian reptile endemic to the Southeastern United States. It is one of two living species in the genus Alligator within the family Alligatoridae; it is larger than the other extant alligator species, the Chinese alligator.
